The Different Types of Window Bird Feeder

There are too many types of window bird feeder which you can use for your bird feeding as follows:
Suet Feeders
Suet cakes are dispensed in hanging metal mesh cages and will attract flickers, nuthatches, woodpeckers, and other small birds that will enjoy clinging to the mesh as they feed. (Be careful about placing a suet feeder over a patio. The debris that drops from the cage as the birds peck away at the cake are liable to attract ants and other insects.)
Bowl Feeders
This is the simplest type of bird feeders and is nothing more than a small, hanging bowl. This configuration will attract a variety of birds but is a serious temptation to squirrels that can make a terrible mess scattering the seed.

Window Feeders
A window bird feeder is designed to attach to a window with either clips or suction cups. Essentially a tray feeder, these are usually made of clear plastic or Plexiglas and the intention is to bring the birds in as close as possible for observation.
Specialized Feeders
Specialized bird feeders may include items like pinecones coated in peanut butter to sticks that hold orange halves and even electric bird feeders that dispense fresh seed at given intervals. Many specialized feeders are meant for "single" use and can be regarded as special treats for the birds.

These feeders are available at pet stores, specialized wild bird stores, and even in most big grocery stores. You can also buy bird feeders online from a variety of sources.

The Basics of a Maintaining a Bird Feeder

Wash your bird feeder once every two weeks with a mild bleach mixture to keep it free of insects, mold and mildew - all of which can be harmful to the birds. Air-dry the feeder and don't fill it with food until it has dried fully. Filling a wet bird feeder will spoil the seeds and encourage the growth of mold. (Always remember to empty your feeder after a rain and allow it to dry completely before filling it again.)

These precautions are especially important for wooden bird feeder models because the wood will retain moisture for longer periods of time. Whether you have a tube feeder or a window bird feeder, a small amount of maintenance will ensure that you are giving your birds good food and yourself hours of pleasure observing these beautiful creatures.
