Tips on Buying Conures

The Conure is a highly popular bird for its beauty and intelligence. A Sun Conure is a colorful and noisy pet that will delight its
owner. Conures are found in South and Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The Green Cheeked Conure is one of the quieter birds in the species, making sounds on par with cockatiels, but even if conures can be raucous, they are peaceful and friendly living in large colonies in the wild.

All the varieties of conures are simply small New World parrots. They are lightly built with small, strong beaks and long, elegant tails. They range in size from roughly that of a parakeet to that of the stereotypical parrot suitable for perching on its owner's shoulder. They are social creatures, enjoying the company of others of their kind and adapting well to life with humans providing they are given enough attention and are included as part of the family. They like to know what's going on and prefer to be out of their cages investigating and joining in. Conure birds make use of their legs to hold things and will roll on their backs to sleep or to play. They are strong-minded birds, stubborn even, but love a good scratch from their human companions, a gesture they will return happily. They bond closely with their humans, exhibit a devilish sense of humor, and are in general known for a fun-loving and engaging personality.

Popular Species of Conures

The average life span of conure is around 10 years, with a maximum of 25. (There have been some instances of conures living to for 35.) Some popular species include:
