Whichever bird you keep as pet, their care and attention is of ut -most importance... Few tips can really make a lot of difference:
If You Are Keeping Birds In Cage:
The cage of birds should be spacious so that birds can stretch their wings without hitting and are able to take short flights. For Parakeets, cockatiels and parrots, you should have horizontal bars in cage with small spacing in between.Cage should be kept neat and clean. Many cages have a slide out tray and an easily removable grate, which are very useful. Some cages should be kept in a draft free area, but not in a direct sun light and should be placed against a wall, in a corner or hanged from the ceiling.

Accessories:

Bowls
BOWLS are needed for feeding. They treat water, grit and crushed shell. Small birds can use plastic bowls. Ceramic or stainless steel bowls are needed for medium and large parrots.
Perches
PERCHES gives standing places for birds, and also gives them an opportunity to exercise their beaks and keep their beaks trim. Perch size and shape can vary depending on the bird, but should fit their feet. A 1" perch is comfortable for most parrots and a 1/2" perch suits smaller birds.
Toys
TOYS: Birds also enjoy playing, so you can give them woods, leathers, ropes, chains, bells, acrylics, swings and ladders, stainless steel mirrors etc. for playing, chewing and enjoying.

Dangers That Little Birds Can Get Into

There are number of dangers too that birds can get exposed to in houses if you are not careful.
Water
Lack of water can prove disastrous. If by chance water's tube's ball sticks, or if a bird stuffs an object into the tube, blocking it, then bird will be deprived of water and may die of dehydration. Therefore checking water tube should be a routine affair.
Unclipped Wings
Their wings should be properly clipped to prevent it from serious injuries. If birds are allowed to fly, they may hit wall, or window and suffer serious injuries. There are also cases when birds have fallen into pots of boiling water, open commodes, windows, mirrors, and a fireplace.
Toxic Fumes
Toxic fumes can also be hazardous for birds. Like smoke from Cigarette, cigar and pipe can cause chronic eye problems to birds. The gases released while cooking can also be extremely dangerous for birds.

Non-stick cookware, drip pans, iron, ironing board covers and heat-lamps with a PTFE coating should not be kept around birds. Chlorine bleach, phenols and ammonia have dangerous vapors that can cause irritation, toxicosis and even death to birds.
Sudden Stepping
A bird may climb down from cage and walk on the floor, without the knowledge of owners and as such can get trampled under their owners feet, they can also enter into heaters and refrigerators.
Dangers From Other Animals
They are also always in danger of becoming prey to Cats and Dogs, so they should not be left without supervision.
Toxic Food
Several foods can also be toxic to birds. Chocolate's and Caffeine can result in toxic compounds proving health hazards.
Heat
Direct sun heat can develop hyperthermia among birds and they can die. Birds can start panting, and get dehydrated. Hyperthermia occurs among baby birds.
Meaures To Prevent Diseases
Closed Aviary Concept is best to prevent birds getting infected from diseases. In this system, infectious birds are restricted and disruptive factors are avoided. This process is much easier and cost effective.. Education to breeders and pet owners can too make lot of difference. Vaccines and vaccination programs, aiming at the immunosuppressive viruses, coupled with strategic medication against secondary infections can be initiated. Effective sanitization of the water system can also help reduce secondary bacterial contamination Birds.
