Parrots: More than Pets, Lifetime Commitments

attract everyone.

A Never Ending Commitment Towards Your Parrot Friend

Once brought home and tamed Parrot becomes part of your family and you are then committed towards it for long years. So choosing a parrot to make it your life long companion is the most difficult task. It becomes even more difficult if you have to make a choice among its species.

Which Parrot Should I Buy

There are 300 species of parrots and all have their distinct identity, temperament, nature, characteristics, mannerism and eating habits... Thorough study and proper planning is required for the species you are considering to buy.

Some of the species that makes good pets are:
African Grey Parrot
African grey parrot is most intelligent of all Parrots. It is medium sized and has is in grey color. Some of their feathers are in dark grey color whereas others are in light grey color. Their tail is red or maroon in color depending on the subspecies. They eat nuts and fruits. They are two types of African grey parrot like:
Congo African Grey Parrot, Psittacus Erithacus Erithacus
" These are larger birds, which has light grey shades on the body. It is 12 inches/30cm long and has deep red tail and black beak.
Timneh African Grey Parrot, Psittacus Erithacus Timneh
Their color is deep grey. They have maroon colored tail and light horned color beak. They are generally calm.

They are fast learners and can mimic anything. For e.g. there is a mention of African grey parrot named Prudle who had a vocabulary of 1000 words. Prudle was captured near Jinja, Uganda in 1958, and in 1977 he was a master of words. They are very affectionate and make best companion. However, they may not be compatible as they can be aggressive and even bite.
Macaws Or Colored Rainbows
They are the largest members of the parrot family. There are seventeen species of these birds in Central and South America. They are brightly colored, with large beaks. Its beauty and engaging personalities have been attracting humans since centuries.

Macaws eat nuts and fruit. They also gnaw and chew on various objects. They are very intelligent and require constant intellectual stimulation to satisfy their innate curiosity. Macaws may live up to 65 years.
Conures
(Conure literally means 'cone tail'), Conures are playful, bold, affectionate and are great in learning tricks and have sweet dispositions. They are lightly built, with long tails and small, strong beaks. They have a diverse range of colors. They eat grains.
Amazons
Among the first birds to be discovered by Christopher Columbus during his world voyage was Amazon parrot. They are green, short winged parrots and are good at talking and imitating sounds. There are 27 species of Amazon parrot.
Cockatoos
Most of them are of white in color and some may be in grays, pinks, black and deep blue. Cockatoos are adorable. A cockatoo is one of the 21 bird species belonging to the family of Cacatuidae. There are 17 species of Cockatoos. Their life span is 40 to 60 years. It needs variety in diet including fruits and vegetables.
