Perfect Information on How to Feed Baby Bird

To feed baby bird, make use of eyedropper, free from air bubbles. Put the dropper in the back of the birdie throat and slowly squeeze
it into its mouth. In case, birdie doesn't open its mouth then open its beak by piercing a finger nail between the upper and lower jaws and try them apart. After the bird has eaten the food, clean the beak and feathers with a moist tissue.

After few days, bird will start eating good food.. To provide hard food, you can stick the food at the end of a pointed stick and put it inside the mouth. You can also feed them with straw but Metal tweezers should be avoided as it may damage the bird's mouth.

Food required for birdie is different in many cases :
Emergency Case
In an emergency case, when the birdie is very hungry and dehydrated the best food is a mixture of 4 tsp. water and 1 tsp. sugar or 2 tsp. water and 1 tsp. white Karo syrup or 2 egg yolks and 2 oz.. Boiled and cooled Coca Cola is good to satisfy the birdie. But this is not advisable every day.

Diets

Birds belongs to two groups: Some are meat eaters and some are seed eaters.. So it is advised to identify the bird as soon as possible to give proper food.

For Meat eaters the best food are as follows:

  • Dry puppy kibbles soaked in water
  • Boiled chicken, strained beef baby food
  • Hard -boiled egg yolk of chicken.
  • Live insects such as flies and mealworms.
For seedeaters the best food is:

Grain:

  • High proteins dry baby cereal.
  • Wheat germ.
  • Corn or oatmeal that has been powdered down in a blender.
This food should be mixed in proper proportion. For insect eaters you can have 1 part Meat mixed to 2 parts grain and for seed eaters you can have 1 part meat to 4 parts grain.

You can also add varieties to their diet to make their food nutritious and tasty. For eg; you can mix 1 part boiled chicken and 5 parts high protein baby cereal and a good pinch of vet-nutri to give nutritious value to their food.

You can supplement these diets with alternatives whenever possible. Different species of birds have different tastes. So you have to prepare food according to their tastes. Here are some of the recipes:
HummingBird -
To prepare the food for Hummingbird, put 4 parts boiled water to 1 part granulated sugar with 20 squeezed mealworm insects, 1 tsp mocking bird food and 1 tblsp, esbilac and a pinch of vet-nutri. This will provide full nutrition to these birds.
Pigeon and Dove -
You can feed Pigeon and Dove with 1/3 chick starter available at feed stores, 1/3 Grain and 1/3 wild birdseed.
Swift, Swallow, Vireo, Warbler, Kinglet, Gnatcatcher, Wren-
Give them P/D dog food mixed with hardboiled egg yolk, dried flies, crushed adult mealworms and pupae (remove heads).
Chukar, Quail, Pheasants
They are seedeaters and eat birdseed, grit coarse sand and water.

Thus, understanding the food habits of the birds is very necessary before preparing their food.

Training Birds to Eat

Train the birdie so that they may start eating themselves. Place a soft piece of fruit or and gently press the bird's beak into the food. Bits will stick to the beak and the bird will eat the food. By repeating this process again and again, the bird will learn to start feeding itself.

Water

When birdie starts eating solid food on his own, you should provide water to them. You can drop a little water on his beak or into his mouth or gently dip its beak into water and then release it immediately. Slowly birdie will itself learn to drink water.

Releasing the Bird

Now it is the time to release the bird. But before releasing the bird, you should see to that the birdie is accustomed to its natural environment, which may take several weeks. Once birdie is comfortable; it should be immediately released.
