Exceptional Varieties of Conure BirdsThere are unique conure birds that still exist and some of the specific varieties are mentioned as follows:Golden ConureThe Golden Conure is a delight to watch with its golden plumage. The largest conure parrot, the Golden grows to 15 inches. The population of Golden Conures has fallen to 2,000-3,000 birds and the species is considered to be seriously endangered.Austral ConureThe dusky red tailed and green Austral Conure has a dark grey, prolonged and slightly curved upper beak. Unlike the Sun Conure, the Austral is considered to be a good talker. It's a sociable bird that likes to be part of the family. Though not a brightly colored bird, the Austral makes up for its lack of ornamentation with a terrific disposition and consequently is an ideal pet.Greater PatagonianA Greater Patagonian can live up to 25 years, but the average life span is 12. It's plumage is dark olive green and is the only conure with feathers covering its nostrils. It's found along the coast in central Chile.Green Cheeked ConureThe Green Cheeked Conure is a small bird with a big personality. In addition to the green cheek the bird has a scalloped gray chest and a dark green body. It is a smart and interactive pet with a strong mind. It is not unusual for a Green Cheeked conure to nip when it doesn't get its way.Blue Crown ConureThe Blue Crown Conure is very intelligent and learns to talk quickly. It does not require a lot of attention but does love to be freed from its cage to roam around in the house. The bird has a green body and a blue crown, forehead and cheeks.Black Capped ConureThe Black Capped Conure has a green body with a black head. The neck has a ring of white and black in a bead-like pattern. This bird is very laid back and quiet. The most lovable quality of this bird is that it sings during its sleep.(For more information on conures visit conure.org.) Housing for ConuresConures should be housed in big cages. The bars of the cages should be spaced properly so that it's neither too small for a conure's feet to get stuck nor too big for the head of the bird to come out. Small sized conures like the green-cheeked conure would require even closer spacing of the bars. (Would-be conure breeders should have aviaries to provide bigger homes to a large number of birds.) Proper care should be taken for the bird's food, bath, play and social grooming. Almost all varieties of these birds, beginning with the Sun Conure make sociable, enjoyable pets.Related ArticlesAdventures in Bird Watching: Best Trip DestinationsQuick Tips for Identifying Birds Lost Forever: Ten Extinct Bird Species Learn How to Attract Birds to Your Yard |
